Cultural Experience in Villaluenga del Rosario

On Saturday we left  Cómpeta and drove to Ubrique, which is near Olvera.  The big attraction there was a bullfight on Saturday afternoon.  I will do a separate story, with photos, of the bullfight soon.  That will take a bit of time - I have a ton of photos to choose from.

Sunday we headed home from Ubrique and stopped in Villaluenga del Rosario which is on the way to Olvera.  You may recall a couple of posts last week about this village, one showing a cheese exposition and the other a bullfight.  When it is not overflowing with people it is one of the most charming of the pueblos blancos.  We stopped to walk the streets and get photos to share.

While walking we encountered three women and Bonnie got in a conversation with them.  Soon one of them asked if we would like to see her house.  She and her friend come up from Cadiz for the weekend and this is the weekend home.  It is at the top of the village, is of Moorish origin  and is who knows how old.  We got to go in and take photos.

Villaluenga del Rosario is red pin. Olvera is blue dot on map.
They are 34 miles apart, about an hours drive.

Wonderful ceilings

The third lady then asked if we would like to see her home.  It is a more traditional house like those found in the small towns and villages. She will be renting it for 240 euros a month.  It has two bedrooms and two baths.  The bedrooms have built in closet space which is rare.  Pretty nice place actually.

More typical home, this one is a rental property

After the home tours we went to the square for a drink and conversation.  All in all we spent about two hours with these delightful women.  Teressa and Lenora are nurses in Cadiz so Bonnie had that connection.  It was really fun and gave us an insight into life in a small pueblo blanco in southern Spain.

On the way back to the car we saw this little street so we had to check it out.  So quaint.
