Jerez feria

On Friday, May 10 we went to Jerez to attend the Feria de Caballo, the annual spring fair.   Horses and carriages are the main feature, promenading around the fairgrounds in a grand style.  Many men, women and children are dressed in the traditional Spanish costumes - such a festive site!  In addition to seeing and being seen while taking part in the paseo, time is spent in small casetas erected by organizations and businesses where people can gather to eat, drink and socialize.  In many towns these are private but in Jerez public access is allowed so anyone can enter to enjoy the food, drink and music.

We spent about three hours in the afternoon immersing ourselves in the hot, dusty, loud, colorful activity that defines feria in southern Spain.

We went to a bullfight later in the afternoon

opening "parade"

At night, the fairgrounds are lighted
