Palm Sunday

March 24, 2013

Got up and went downtown to see a Semana Santa procession which turned out not to happen.  We did go to a church which was packed with families and kids, all with olive branches. During the mass were several songs with waving of the branches.  It was nice to be in church.

After the service a lot of people tried to exit two small doors and it was raining to boot.  This caused quite a bit of congestion, and along with a jam of cars in front of the church it was busy for a while. We were at the back of the church so got out quickly.

We hustled back up the hill to the square of the large church by where we live.  A concert was scheduled with a school bugle and drum band and also a fusion flamenco performance.  Unfortunately it was cancelled because of wind and rain.  Bummer.

We did run into friends from last year...Melissa, an artist originally from Chattanooga, and Jill and Eric, English expats who live here permanently. We also met a local couple, neighbors of Melissa.  We had a nice catch-up visit and promised to get together soon.

The sun came out briefly and we were able to enjoy the view over Olvera.

Around five o'clock pm we went back downtown and again there was no procession.  The city hall website has some explaining to do!  So, we walked about checking out some new streets and just enjoying walking.  It rained some off and on but we were prepared.  Supper at Mi Pueblo then on home.
