Settling in

My, my…we slept for 12 hours, awakening at high noon!  Did we ever need that.  We decided to go out to lunch and on the way to the car we looked to the left and this is what we saw:

Simple and so typical of what you see around here.

We also saw a friend from last year, Briggita, and chatted with her for a few minutes.  She and her husband John own a home in Olvera and plan to retire here in 2-3 years.

We ended up at Juanito Gomez for lunch, a restaurant and bar we enjoyed last year.  A light fare of tapas and we were good to go.

It was then off to the Mercadona which is the local supermarket.  Bonnie had great fun getting what we needed and more fun seeing what all they had.  We spent quite a while there.  Getting groceries in the house makes us feel more at home.  We stayed in for supper and Bonnie made her delicious soap de picadillo.  Yum.

We ventured up to the church to see if there was anything happening relative to preparation for Semana Santa (Holy Week).  Sure enough, there was a group of men rehearsing carrying one of the floats out of the church.  The tolerance is very close so this takes real coordination and precision.

After watching for a while, we wandered down the street to Mi Pueblo where we ate last night.  We had coffee and had a great visit with Paco, the owner, and Sergio, the boyfriend of his daughter.  They are delightful.  He is closing this location in a couple of weeks and moving to the newer part of town.  He says there just isn't enough people traffic in the old part of town to stay open due to the terrible economy here in Spain.

So, back up, up, up to our new home and off to bed.  Great first day!

  1. Bill & Bonnie, nice to see your pics and that you're having a good time there. I'll pass this blogspot on to others to view. As for the "Amahl Shukup" name, I'm not sure how Google came up with that, it's a VERY old online pseudonym I used to use years ago when I was involved in a deep political debate with some crazy people, but I guess Google knows everything, right? See you all when you get back.
